Well despite the weather being awful members and non members donned their raincoats, hats and maybe even the wellington boots and braved the wind, the rain and the flooded roads to reach the Shire House Suite for our Annual General Meeting and afternoon Conference.
We were amazed and grateful to see over seventy people there. Lots of tubers sold and raffle tickets bought so thank you for your support.
After official business was complete the afternoon kicked off with George Kestell – his plant knowledge is unsurpassed and he certainly got everyone going as he passed around various pieces of shrubs and plants. Always willing to provide advice and answer all the questions in his unique style.
After a break for refreshments, more tuber buying and the raffle drawn we introduced our second speaker Sue Newton, NGS County Organiser, with her talk “Beyond the Garden Gate”, a very interesting presentation on the National Garden Scheme. Sue explained the history of the organisation, how it raises money to donate to many worthwhile charities and finished off with some lovely photos of Cornish gardens that are part of the scheme.
The afternoon finished off with Cyril’s tuber lottery – everyone had the opportunity to purchase a bag of unlabeled tubers for a surprise when they flower.
The afternoon finished just after 4.30pm when luckily the rain had eased.
Thanks once again to everyone that came and supported us and look forward to seeing you at our next event.
