SUMMARY:2026 AGM and Conference
DESCRIPTION:We are holding our 2026 AGM and Conference on Sunday 15 February 2026. This also includes our Annual Tuber Sale. \nDoors open at 1pm where there will be an opportunity to purchase dahlia tubers kindly donated by local members as well as purchase some raffle tickets to help support the society. We are always grateful for donations of any spare tubers you may have\, please bring them along. \nEveryone welcome both members and non members. We start the afternoon at 1.30pm with the official society business which usually lasts 30 minutes.  We then kick off the conference part of the afternoon. \nWe are delighted to welcome Darren Everest from the Isle of Wight for the afternoon. Darren is one of the UKs top Dahlia and Sweet Pea growers and exhibitors and a multi Gold Medal winner at the Chelsea Flower Show. There will be an opportunity to purchase some of Darrens own Sweet Pea seeds and also grab a copy of his first book. \nWe will end the afternoon with a short question and answer session which no doubt Darren will assist in. \nWe look forward to seeing you there. \n

DESCRIPTION:* * Change of Venue * *\nPlease note that the venue for this event has changed and will now be held at the Lanivet Parish Community Centre. \nThis is the last event in our series of talks on Growing Dahlias. We have been covering all the topics you need to succeed at growing this beautiful flower\, in the garden or for cut flowers and also showing. \nOur dahlias should now be growing well and we now talk about disbudding\, pests\, feeding and talking care of your plants. \nWe also look at transporting your flowers to a show\, staging the blooms and show classes. We hear from an NDS Judge on what they are looking for plus this is a good opportunity to ask any general questions on growing dahlias from our expert growers\, exhibitors and breeders. \nJackie\, a novice grower\, will talk to us about her new dahlia growing hobby and what showing for the first time was like – it was great fun with plenty of help and advice. \nThis event is open to everyone whether you are a member or not.  There is a small entrance fee of £1 per person which includes a cup of tea or coffee during the short interval and we are also holding a raffle. \nPlenty of free parking and easy access\, we look forward to seeing you all. \n

DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to continue our events throughout this season with our series on Growing Dahlias. \nWe have already covered putting the tubers to sleep\, collecting seed\, waking the tubers up\, splitting your tubers and preparing your seed for sowing. \nWe now continue with all aspects of taking cuttings\, sowing seeds and much more.  We include discussions on rooting mediums and methods and how to grow on your precious cuttings.  This includes feeding and planting out and the meaning of “stopping”. \nWe take a look at Pot Tubers and Mother Plants\, what does “how many to grow up” mean and why it is important for all growers. \nWe look at Dahlia Classifications \nFor those interested in having a go at showing we look at the show schedule and what it all means. \nThis event is open to everyone whether you are a member or not.  There is a small entrance fee of £1 per person which includes a cup of tea or coffee. \nPLEASE NOTE: The Shire House Suite is on the opposite side of the road from the The Shire House.  It is in the main car park.

We start the afternoon at 1.30pm with the official society business which usually lasts 30 minutes.  We then kick off the conference part of the afternoon. \nUpdate: 20 February 20205: We have had to make a change to the previously advertised line up due to circumstances that were beyond our control. \nJohn Lanyon – My Life with Daffodils\n \nAward-winning horticulturist John Lanyon has spent over 42 years in professional horticulture and 27 years as Head Gardener with the National Trust.  John cared for Cornish gardens Trelissick\, Glendurgan\, Trerice and Bosloe.  The RHS awarded John the prestigious Loder Rhododendron Cup and Associate of Honour\, to recognise his outstanding contribution to the practice and promotion of horticulture and gardening. \nWe are delighted John has been able to join us at short notice on Sunday and we look forward to meeting him. \nGrowing Dahlias\nAfter some refreshments and the raffle draw we continue our series on Growing Dahlias by talking about starting your tubers into growth\, splitting tubers and also thinking about sowing dahlia seeds. There will be lots of experts in growing and breeding dahlias on hand to obtain advice from and answers to your questions. \nPlus of course time for chatting about dahlias.
