The report of our shows in 2019
Our 2019 Show Report
Like a lot of dahlia growers around the UK the Cornish growers have found the season to be a challenging one with the weather patterns that we now experience. Despite this, however, both our Cornish shows were a success with some great exhibits. We would like to thank all those that both exhibited or visited the shows.
Our “mini show” held at Wadebridge saw over 210 entries with most points in show being jointly won by Roy Knight and Simon Stidwell. Runner up most points was won by David Jasper. Best exhibit in show was won by Roy Knight with Jomanda and second best in show by Simon Stidwell – variety unknown. Other prize card winners were Julie Inch, Mike Bryant, Stuart Inch, Terry Stephens, Nathan Mitchell and John Colling.
The bowl class (voted for by the public) was won by Lorraine Jasper.
Visitor numbers were down slightly but still an estimated 180. Huge thanks go to all that helped setup the show on the day before, the day itself and also to help dismantle the show at the end of the day.
Our “main show”, which is a three-day event, was again held at The Lost Gardens of Heligan, held in the Barn, over the August Bank Holiday weekend. It is estimated that there were around 3000 visitors to the show over the three days and the society thanks all the staff at Heligan for their help and support in hosting the show.
In addition to the show itself the society propagated, grew on, planted out and looked after around 600 plants in a display at The Lost Gardens of Heligan. Despite some difficult weather conditions the plants put on a great display for the visitors to the gardens. Huge thanks to Cyril Watkins, Roy Knight and Mike Bryant for supplying the plants and in addition Pat Knight and Dave Primmer who joined Cyril, Roy and Mike in looking after the plants during the season.
We also would like to thank Nick Shelley Electrical Ltd for sponsoring the prize money for The Cornish Championship class and to Halls of Heddon for sponsoring prizes for the novice classes.
