My first visit to the Wadebridge show just blew me away with new varieties l had never seen before or in colours l had not realised existed. The first thing that hit me was the amazing Collerettes, standing proud with colour combinations that a budding artist would love to have, the next ones that excited me were the Fimbriated. They instantly reminded me of the Lindford Christie sculpture based on his explanation that he started running on B OF BANG.
The Fimbriated’s on display that morning looked for all the world like a firework display, last summers show at Heligan l again felt that awe at seeing something, Ian Clemens Anemone vase! l went back several times every day to see them, pictures in brochures and online do not do these justice. In my, still novice eye, were the highlight of the show even the name Blue Bayou seemed to sing out to me.
Although the choices are smaller than for other more recognised varieties there are some real beauties out there, maybe not all exhibition quality but hey grow them anyway l know l am, and who knows l might have something for one of the shows, so thank you Ian.
