Dahlia Questions:
Where can I buy dahlia plants and tubers?
There are many online retailers and garden centres that sell both dahlia plants and dahlia tubers. The type of dahlias and quality can vary greatly from retailer to retailer.
The Cornish Dahlia Society sells dahlia tubers at its Annual General Meeting which is open to members and non members (see our What’s On page for details). All of these tubers have been donated by members and successfully grown in Cornwall. Not all varieties do well in our climate so buying locally is a really good start.
We also sell plants at our Plant Sale (see our What’s On page for details) and again these have all been grown locally.
We also recommend two suppliers that many of our members buy from and have had great success with, Halls of Heddon and J R Gott. Both of the websites are listed on our Useful Links page.
Showing Questions:
Can anyone enter your shows?
Anyone can enter our Beginners Classes and you can download a schedule on our Show Information Page.
All the classes for our One Day Show are also open to anyone to enter. Our Three Day Show has “open” classes for anyone and “Members” classes that are just for members.
More information is in our schedules but if you have any questions please just get in touch and we will be pleased to answer them.
Do I have to provide my own vases?
No we will provide all the vases needed to stage your exhibits. Please do not bring your own.
Should I bring any oasis?
Standard Floral Foam is banned at our shows but we do allow the use of Bio-degradeable Floral Foam. We do have a small stock available at the shows which is available to buy.
You can also use newspaper or any other bio-degradeable material – if in doubt get in touch.
What else should I bring?
It is a good idea to bring scissors or scetars to cut your stems to length as well as a small watering can to help you top up your vases.
Also useful is a cloth to clean the staging table you have used to stage your exhibit.
