The Cornish Dahlia Society was formed in 1981 following a meeting in late 1980 which means that this year the society is celebrating 40 years. This is quite a milestone in current times given that many local societies have fallen by the wayside.
It may not be possible to hold a large celebration event this year but plans are in place to hold some form of get together in late July or early August. We will publish more details as soon as we can. Hopefully we will hold some demonstrations on staging blooms, maybe a talk plus plenty of chat. There may even be refreshments if the rules allow it.
The event will be open to both members and non-members so anyone interested in dahlias can attend and hopefully join the society.
We will publish the date, time and location of the event as soon as we can once we have been able to firm up all the arrangements and look forward to seeing you there.
In the beginning……..
The article above goes on to say ………
Though dahlias are popular in North Cornish gardens, there is plenty of scope for more showmen. The Cornish Dahlia Society would be happy to help any newcomers. At Tintagel, David Jasper had the best exhibit in show with Lady Linda and Rothsay Robin. Ken Jones took the open points cup and C. Jory the local points cup. David Jasper again had best in show with Lady Linda at the Delabole show and the dahlia cup at Egloshayle went to M. Denning. Another silver medal was collected by David Jasper at the Tintagel September show.
