Open Garden – Fontana

by | 26 June 2023

On Sunday 25 June Derek Bishop and Marina Rickard very kindly opened their 14 acre Fontana Garden to the public on behalf of the Cornish Dahlia Society.

This lovely garden at Trenython has an outstanding collection of mature trees and shrubs set in a beautiful wooded valley. A number of pathways enabled us to wander through the trees to reach the tranquility of the lily ponds and waterfall. By the pond there is a magnificient palmatum acer glade of some 70 trees.

It is a steep garden and the refreshments kindly provided by Marina were most welcome. A cuppa and a cream tea are of course always welcome – as long as its jam first !!

The society is grateful to Derek and Marina for opening their garden to the public and for donating £210 to the society to help continue to putting on events and our shows. We also thank everyone that came along both members and non members and hope that you had a lovely afternoon too.

The society also congratulates Derek and his team for winning a Silver Gilt Medal at the BBC Gardeners World Live exhibition at the NEC Birmingham.

The stunning garden, designed by Kim Parish, has now been moved to its new home in the grounds of Mount Edgcumbe Hospice in St Austell. The garden was also featured on BBC Gardeners World with the programme opening and ending in the garden.
